5 Ways to Gain Financial Independence as a Writer

Making huge money as a writer isn't an easy ride, not to talk of getting financial stability through writing. It's easy to imagine yourself becoming rich as one of the most successful writers you see out there. But their success as writers is not a bed of roses either. And ironically, most of these successful writers don't stay rich because they're writing, but because they're doing something else to grow whatever money they make out of their writing profession. One way to achieve this is by investing. However, if you're thinking of becoming financially independent as a writer, you may want to consider the following.

1. Build a platform.

To be successful as a writer, you need to build a platform for yourself in the midst of a busy world, especially, an online platform. There are many writers out there, but you also want to present your brand to the people that know you and those that do not. By making yourself known to people as a good writer, you create an awareness in their mind about you. They will already know what you do and who to call when there's a writing job or writing contest out there.

You can build a platform for yourself both on social media and outside it. On social media, make good use of your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram walls. Outside social media, attend book fairs to connect with readers and other writers and let them know what you do. When you stick to this without minding the odds, it is possible for you to start receiving calls to write for magazines, journals, and online platforms.

2. Start a blog.

Starting a blog is not as easy as maintaining it. But if you want to show yourself as a serious writer interested in making lifetime riches out of it, you must keep showing up on your blog. Try creating contents that attract people’s attention and draw strong traffic to your blog from every parts of the world. If your blog becomes widely known for its contents, Google and other websites will begin to rate you high on their SEOs, thereby, drawing the attention of investors and firms to pay you handsomely for advertising their products on your blog.

3. Freelance

Freelancing is another way to make money through writing. In fact, if you know how to maneuver your way correctly in the world of freelance writing, you can become one of the best freelance writers known around, which means there will be work for you every now and then, boosting your income.

4. Write books

There are many books out there that do not meet people's need, thus they fail to gain relevance in our information-overloaded world. You need to learn to know what people are thinking about at every point in time so you can write about it either in fiction or nonfiction. If your books become a hit, you stand a chance of enjoying a lifetime royalty on them, thereby, securing you an unbroken financial flow throughout your lifetime.

5. Invest

Whatever money you make out of writing, learn to invest. If you don't know how to, ask successful and reliable business moguls to guide you. Or if uninterested in investing yourself, you can be an angel investor, teaming up with successful entrepreneurs in growing their business financially, while you keep your shares. Whichever way you choose, you need to apply immense wisdom when it comes to business so you can see the desired results of increasing your money.
