Intel Launches First Artificial Intelligence Hot Chip

Intel Nervana Neural Network Processor Intel has revealed its first high-performance Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven neural network chip "Nervana" to catch up with the growing high-speed computing and robotics demand in the global world.


On Tuesday at the "Hot Chips 2019" conference at Stanford University in California, the chip-maker unveiled the Nervana Neural Network Processors, otherwise known as Springhill, with the NNP-T for training and the NNP-I for inference.


Naveen Rao, Intel Vice President and General Manager, Artificial Intelligence Products Group emphasized on the future state of AI.


Intel noted that its initial AI product, which was successfully made at its development facility in Haifa, Israel, comes after investing about $120m or more, in 3 artificial intelligence startups in Israel.


"In order to get to a future state of 'AI everywhere,' we'll need to address the crush of data being generated and ensure enterprises are empowered to make efficient use of their data, processing it where it's collected when it makes sense and making smarter use of their upstream resources".


Apart from Inference, Springhill is designed to facilitate deep learning method using Intel's 10nm process technology with Ice Lake cores for performance.


The new hardware chip is said to help Intel Xeon processors in large companies while complex computations in the artificial intelligence field grows.
Intel also confirms that Facebook has began using the product.
